May 1, 2019 was Empowerment Day at View Park High School in the Crenshaw District of South Los Angeles.
College Counselor, Dr Latrica Cooper invited me and other professionals to address the student body in special classrooms throughout the campus. We were tasked with relating to the students the many factors that led to how we chose our professional fields of interest, which in my case meant Visual Art and Arts Education practices.
I delivered an image driven presentation featuring my work and some of my favorite African American artists like Romare Bearden, Barkley L. Hendricks and Carol Lawrence to encourage students no matter what their field of interest to include “Creativity and Collaboration” in their efforts.
